Phillips to Receive Endorsements of Senators Gonzalez and May following Panel on Data Centers

AUBURN, NY – Following a panel opposing data center development in Lysander on Saturday, Ian Phillips (Democratic candidate for Assembly District 126) will receive public endorsements from Senator Kristen Gonzalez (D, Senate District 59) and Senator Rachel May (D, Senate District 48), whose district includes Lysander.

Ian Phillips has been a strong voice against data center development. He attended the meeting of the Lysander Town Council at which they passed a six-month moratorium on such projects, and a meeting of the Baldwinsville Village Council where he urged the council to pass a resolution to send to the governor, urging her to sign the one-year moratorium. He also urged the Auburn City Council to pass a resolution calling on Governor Hochul to sign the one-year moratorium on data centers. Both councils passed such resolutions.

The panel will take place from 10 am to 12 pm at the Charles W Baker in Baldwinsville. The endorsement will take place immediately after, outside the building.

The panel is the last stop on Senator Kristen Gonzalez’s nine-day New York State Fights Data Center tour. Gonzalez (D, Senate District 59) was the lead sponsor of Senate Bill 10642, the Responsible Data Center Development Act, which was passed by the legislature in June. The bill was not signed into law by the governor, who instead issued an executive order placing a one-year moratorium on the development of data centers using more than 50-mega watts of energy. Senator May was the lead sponsor of bills that would eliminate tax breaks for data center development and prohibit non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) for elected officials involved in negotiating data center deals.

The general election will take place on November 3, 2026.
